Personal Customs Exemptions for Canadians Go Up

Effective June 1, 2012, the personal customs exemptions for Canadian residents returning to Canada go up. The exemptions let you bring goods up to a certain value into Canada without having to pay regular duties and taxes. The exemption depends on the amount of time you've been outside the country. For absences of 24 hours or longer the exemption goes up from CAN$50 to CAN$200. If you are outside Canada for 48 hours or more, the exemption will be CAN$800. There are some conditions, so be sure to check the details before you leave Canada.
